Grandma's Garden

This quilt is the same technique as Winter Snow but the fabric is cut on the diagonal. I found this one a bit trickier in that it was harder to balance the segment sizes and also I had to throw in a couple of other fabrics for one or two spots to balance it.

I might see if any of the magazines want to run it as a project sometime in 2009.

Sweet Hearts and Apple Blossoms

I finished most of this quilt last year however it needed a little something extra to make it suitable for a magazine project and so I added about 50 yo yos, using the various clover yo yo makers.

I taught this at our FAB retreat in 2007 and this year gave it to David and Lynda when their little one was born. Will probably have to make another one as a class sample as there are a few people who would like to make it.

It was published in Down Under Quilts late this year.

Winter Snow

This quilt was made for Richard's 18th birthday and although it doesn't look finished here that is only because I haven't taken another photo.

It is a simple whack and stack design and was so popular that Cheryl, at Quilter's Garden, quickly filled two classes and is hoping to run more next year.

Turkish Delight

Well it is now two years since this quilt was started. This year I added another border but as I was in a rush it didn't sit right and so I shall during 2009 take it off and do it properly.

My planned final border will be another star but these will be in varying shades of green.

I don't think I will make another applique quilt again however.

UFO Queen Challenge

Well I have signed up and now need to make sure that I keep working hard so as to avoid being crowned. Will have to keep at least one quilt at the near finished stage in case i ht the top of the list without warning.... mind you that's not hard considering my low attention span. I think I have at least four qults that I could finish in less than a week if I were motivated/scared enough

ATCs Finished

Well a busy day definitely.

Finished my ATCs .... even did some embroidery on two of the crazy pieced cards. Although they look Ok I'm not fussed on the output for the input!

Also worked on my hexagon charm quilt ... probably only another four days and I will have the central panel all finished. It will make a good man's lap quilt ..... only need to find a man now as all the males in this house have more than enough quilts.

Tonight looks like being a relaxing evening with some hand work ... I really do enjoy the handwork rather than the machine work. But then again I suppose each has their own place in the process.

More colour needed

All of the blocks look really boring. Will have to photograph some of the different coloured blocks.

Have been working on the flowers and hearts to embellish my Sweet Hearts and Apple Blossoms quilt. I can't believe how hard it is to find 1930s blues. Have bought four FQs so far and none of them are really right. Hopefully the mixture of colours will help the eye to gloss over that fact. Have made what feels like a hundred of the little flowers and hearts using the clover makers. Although they are cute they are a lot more work than the simple yo yos and I don't think I would want to make many more than I have already done.

Another example of my poor photography skills. This block appears to be falling over. Although the two points are not mirror images in real life the design does look balanced.

This was one of the modifications from Bouquets for Mary. A couple of extra seams and voila a more graceful design. Some difficulties in seeing the contrast in the photo but still a gorgeous block.

Good Morning

This one reminds me of an early morning stretch. It was one of the first ones I made. The 'huge' size of the pieces meant that the quilt wouldn't fit into the miniature category for the Sydney show. Phooey... need to rethink this.

Lilly Pond

The colours in this block while reminiscent of lillies in a pond lacked contrast. Sometimes difficult to see until sewn together:-(

Bouquet for Mary

Another block completed. This is one of the easier blocks and was a good starting place in the quilt. The dark sections were fussy cut to highlight a delightful flower and hence the name evolved. I am really enjoying this quilt. By the way I have no idea who Mary is either .... the name just seemed to suit.

Dark Hexagons

charm quilt, cut years ago and started xmas 2007.

Miniature Hexagons

Most blocks are different and at this stage there are just over 140 designs. I have finished approximately 80 of the blocks and generally make one or two a week.

The hexagons have side length of just 2in and the number of pieces vary between 13 and 52. It takes on average four hours to complete a block from design stage, cutting and piecing.

QAYG Pastel Hexagons

Pastel was never my favourite colour but I had a few pieces and decided to try a new technique. When it didn't work out as planned this is the quilt that resulted. Mind you the leftover pieces from this quilt is what started the miniature hexagons.

Richard's 18th birthday quilt

A simple whack and stack made in monochromatic black. Only needs to be quilted but as his birthday has been the rush seems to have settled.

Tailing On

RR gave me a bag of shop samples and after making a miniature quilt using 1801 1/4in hexagons there still remained enough fabric for several more quilts. The plan for this quilt will be to make a charm square background of four patches and then applique a silhouette over the top .... well that's the plan at this stage. The patches are joined as tailers whenever I am sewing so as to not waste thread between piecing
